History in the making.

The Democrats have formally selected Senator Barack Obama as their nominee for the office of President of the United States of America.

This is a blog about the City of Long Branch so we will not go into any great detail here other than to point your attention to the new poll and to pause for a moment to honor the historic nature of Obama's nomination. God Bless America!

I'm not sure where this belongs... but I read an article in the Atlanticville about the Elberon School. Since my father taught in that school's basement for more than 30 years you can imagine my surprise when I read the school was built in 1969.

Either Dad was not telling us the truth about where and when he went to work each day, or the reporter didn't know the exisitng school was enlarged by the addition of the gymnasium and several classrooms in 1969.

I passed the school yesterday while biking to see the only Long Branch resident with an airplane in his front yard. I passed by Councilman Unger's house whose yard has been displaced by the bridge construction. Talk about an invasion of privacy!

These first two comments have absolutely nothing to do with this blog on the historical significance of the upcoming presidential election. One thing is certain -- one political party will make history come November 4. Whatever your political affiliation -- Democrat, Republican, or independent -- please come out and vote for the candidate of your choice. Let your voice be heard, and continue to do so all the way down to the local level, especially at the next couple of Long Branch board of education elections (next one is April 2009, folks!).
